On October 11, 2017, the Evergreen Chorale welcomed composer Ola Gjeilo for a workshop with the choir and the Evergreen High School Choral Images choir. Composer and pianist Ola Gjeilo was born in Norway in 1978 and moved to the United States in 2001 to begin his composition studies at the Juilliard School in New York City, where he currently resides. Ola is currently composer-in-residence with DCINY and Albany Pro Musica. Shining Stars: Michael Mandrell and Gretchen Moritz

In July 2017, we kicked off the season with the first concert in our Shining Stars series, featuring an evening of music with guitarist Michael Mandrell who was joined by flutist Gretchen Moritz. Michael Mandrell currently makes his home in Portland, Oregon and Taos, New Mexico. Influenced by the burgeoning Celtic folk music revival taking place in Britain, France and North America, Michael explores the diversity of open tunings, the nuanced harmonic palates of modern jazz influences and even East Indian modalities.
